Monopoly now a skill game

News on 13 May 2009

The online skill gaming website WorldWinner.com has announced the availability of an old but still very popular board game – Monopoly – following a deal with the owner of the brand, Hasbro Inc.
The game is available online for cash and prizes on the American-owned website, which is run by the Game Show Network, a cable television and direct broadcast satellite channel.
The launch of Monopoly Downtown builds on the success of Scrabble Cubes, and a spokesman for WorldWinner.com revealed that the operator will soon debut online cash versions of additional classic Hasbro games including Trivial Pursuit, Clue, Twister and Battleship.
In Monopoly Downtown, players use building pieces of all shapes and sizes to fill properties within city grids. When they have filled every space, competitors increase their score to earn cash and prizes. The game also features House, Hotel, Chance and Community Chest bonuses in order to heighten the challenge and maximise potential winnings.
Peter Blacklow, an executive vice-president for Game Show Network Digital said: “Monopoly was born during the Great Depression when its unemployed creator inspired millions with the thrill of fame and fortune.
“Now, through our alliance with Hasbro, the game is taking root in a new medium and turning fantasy fortunes into reality. Monopoly Downtown gives game lovers everywhere a chance to compete for real cash and prizes and experience the small victories that come from winning competitions, even in tough times.”
