Two years ago the international online gambling group Betfair partnered with XoomWorks in building and staffing a development centre in Cluj, arguably the Silicon Valley of Romania and perhaps of Eastern Europe. This expanded operation has now become an integrated part of the Betfair group.
The Cluj division will add approximately 70 new members of staff to the Betfair payroll all of whom have been trained and hired locally by XoomWorks. The centre will henceforth be responsible for approximately a quarter of Betfair’s development projects, focusing on innovations for the group’s sportsbook, games and mobile applications, and running its own training and development activities.
Tony McAlister, Betfair’s Chief Technology Officer, says: “We want to recruit the best IT talent wherever it resides in the world. This investment allows us to tap into the rich diversity and creativity of this region’s sizeable talent pool. We are delighted to consolidate our commitment to the centre by bringing it into the Betfair organisation at this exciting point in our international growth.”
