Another bad month for Atlantic City

The US east coast gambling centre of Atlantic City experienced another trying month in July, with the city’s 11 casinos taking $383 million, a 12.7 percent decline the same period last year.
Associated Press reports that according to official figures, slot revenue was down 12.4 percent at $266.8 million, while table games revenue declined by 13.4 percent to $116.2 million.
This is the third consecutive year of declining revenues for Atlantic City that started when the first of nine slots parlours opened in Pennsylvania in November 2006. The recession has clearly exacerbated an already bad situation.
For the first seven months of this (2009) year, Atlantic City casinos won $2.3 billion, down 14.9 percent from the same period in 2008.
