Greek cyber-crime police officers have detailed the arrest of a 19-year old national suspected of operating an unidentified, illegal online gambling site.
The Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate of the Hellenic Police Headquarters said its investigation had found information on a social networking site that indicated the national was making false claims and offering predictions on sports events for a fee.
In addition, the suspect asked for prepaid card codes, often claiming that he had inside information on the outcome of “fixed” matches, primarily football, through numerous sources on the football field or from betting companies, many of whom he claimed came from abroad.
Police seized an internal hard drive and cell phone from the suspects residence which will be examined by the Criminal Investigation Directorate as the case file is processed by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Athens Court of First Instance.
