As the week came to a close, Cryptologic’s vice president of business development, Justin Thouin, dispelled fears that his company’s licensing contracts may be impacted by the recent takeover of Marvel Entertainment by the Disney organisation.
Cryptologic and other Internet gambling groups have followed a trend toward licensing comic superheroes and movie characters from major entertainment companies like Marvel and MGM, using the popular characters to design branded slots for online casinos.
When the $4 billion Disney takeover of Marvel hit the headlines, there was speculation that Disney’s image as a youth and family oriented entertainment organisation would sit uneasily with online gambling slots.
Thouin addressed the speculation by pointing out that Cryptologic has an exclusive contract with Marvel through to 2013 and has every confidence it will continue.
“We do not anticipate the potential purchase of Marvel by Disney to impact our ability to continue to offer these games,” he said.
