Male, female and youth teams in the Bulgarian Football Union will be sponsored for the next three years by the Sofia-based EuroFootball sportsbetting company following an agreement signed last week.
EuroFootball will additionally serve as the main sponsor for the Bulgarian Football Professional League for the 2009/10 season.
EuroFootball’s major shareholder – at 49 percent – is Intralot, the Greek developer and supplier of gaming and transaction processing systems. The company was launched in 1993 and is licensed in Bulgaria.
“For me, there is nothing more natural than a Bulgaria-licensed bookmaker being a partner of the Bulgarian Football Union and Bulgarian national teams,” said Borislav Mihaylov, President for the Bulgarian Football Union. “Everybody knows that at these times of severe financial crisis it is difficult to find partners, let along for a long term. This is why I highly appreciate EuroFootball’s willingness to support us in the coming years.”
The Bulgarian Football Union says that EuroFootball’s financial support will be used to develop the national teams’ training camps and rehabilitation facilities in addition to providing more scope for friendly matches and player bonuses.
“I highly appreciate this demonstration of extraordinary generosity and social responsibility from EuroFootball, which has been part of its policy for years, even now in these times of international financial crisis,” said Valentin Mihov, President for the Bulgarian Professional Football League. “Through its policy of supporting the development of sports in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian operator has been proved, once again, as a reliable and stable partner setting an example for other organisations to follow.”
EuroFootball is making available incentive premiums in the event the Bulgarian men’s national team qualifies for 2012’s European Championships in Poland and Ukraine.
Nicolaos Arsenopoulos, chief executive for EuroFootball said: “By signing this contract, EuroFootball continues, or rather upgrades and turns into a sustainable practice, its socially responsible policy of supporting Bulgarian sports. In the 2009/10 season, EuroFootball will fund almost all football events in the country. Also, EuroFootball finances football in Bulgaria through the commercials during football matches, a portion of which is paid to the teams. Thus, I am proud to say that EuroFootball has become the official partner of football in Bulgaria.”
