The Irish online and land gambling group Paddy Power has advised customers that it will no longer accept bets on bullfighting following complaints by animal rights groups.
Apparently the Irish Council Against Blood Sports labelled bets on how many ears Spanish matadors would cut from slain bulls “grotesque and in the poorest of taste,” and the gambling group has deferred to their judgement.
Rob LeBlanc, a director of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals confirmed that Paddy Power management had assured PETA that no further bullfighting bets would be accepted. LeBlanc saluted the bookmaker on its decision, saying, “Bravo to Paddy Power for distancing itself from a barbaric ritual”.
