Leeds-based pooled football, darts and rugby betting firm Bets of Mates co-owner David McGurk has listed 22 percent of the company on crowd funding site crowdcube.com in a bid to raise GBP 200 000.

McGurk, a former York City professional football player retired from the sport earlier this year and is refocusing his efforts on growing the BetsofMates concept in terms of app development, website improvements and a marketing drive for the brand.

According to McGurk, BetsofMates has over 1 110 users and has taken GBP 70 000 in bets since its inception, 18 months ago.  “We have achieved this through hard work, but we all have full-time jobs and sometimes we have not always had the time to work on the site as much as we would like.  Now I am moving into part-time football I will have the time to focus my efforts towards the business. We feel ready to go the next level now.”

At launch BetsofMates was co-owned by McGurk, John Hughes and Adam Haywood.  Hughes, a former city trader with UBS, was better known for his relationship with convicted fraudster and rogue trader Kweku Adoboli who cost UBS $2.3 Billion.
