The annual eGaming Review Awards for 2009, handed out this week in London, were hotly contested by some of the most respected online gambling companies on the planet, with the top accolade – Operator of the Year – going to the Vienna-listed Bwin group despite fierce competition from the likes of Bet365, PartyGaming and Betfair.
Collecting the award, Bwin UK country manager Nic Wenn said: ”It’s great that Bwin has won this award after ten years…..leading the way in opening new territories in Europe and leading the technological advance in our industry.”
The judging panel recognised Bwin for its ‘consistency, leadership, scale, the strength of the brand, for promoting responsible gaming, and for showing continued, consisted leadership.’
The Austrian company has had a good year in terms of recognition and business success, topping the eGaming Review Power 50 leading operators for the second year running and acquiring the major Italian poker site Gioco Digitale to position itself strongly in the Italian market.
Winning companies in each category of the Awards faced tough competition from rivals as the judges declared a range of other accolades that included:
Unibet – Top in the European Sports Operator category
Cashcade – Bingo Operator of the Year
Betsson – Most Socially Responsible Operator
Betfair – Best UK Sportsbetting Operator
Party Poker – Poker Operator of the Year
