Only days after an adverse Court decision forced it to close its inaugural venture into land gambling through a betting shop in Stockholm , the Swedish online gambling group Betsson has been able to re-open the facility.
The re-opening was made possible by Sweden’s Supreme Administrative Court, which revoked a negative December 7 ruling from the lower Administrative Court Of Appeal which resulted in Betsson facing the possibility of hefty fines if it continued to operate.
Betsson opened the shop almost twenty months back and since then has fought a running battle with Sweden’s Lottery Inspectorate officials over whether Swedish law or EU rules on free passage of services apply.
The original decision saw the Administrative Court Of Appeal rule in favour of the Lottery Inspectorate that the outlet violated current Swedish laws on gaming. However, Betsson argued that the Scandinavian nation’s rules are not compliant with European edicts on the free movement of services.
