One of the most ethical and professional online gambling groups in the industry, Betfair, has announced a landmark sign-up this week as it celebrates ten years of successful and expanding operations – its 3 millionth player.
It’s a remarkable achievement, even assuming that the actual number of active, regular players – guesstimated based on Betfair reports – is probably somewhere around the 800 000 mark; still a ringing endorsement of the quality of the company’s operations, which range across almost the entire spectrum of internet betting.
Betfair spokesmen said this week that the group processes some 6 million wagers a day through its hi-tech IT systems, said to be the envy of many technologists. In the past year alone the company has successfully handled over 500 million wagers.
Betfair chief executive David Yu says: “Reaching our three millionth customer is a significant achievement of which I am extremely proud. Our continued growth is a testament to Betfair appealing to a wider range of people than ever before. The fact that we have passed this milestone in the year we celebrate our tenth birthday is symbolic of how far we have come in that time.
“With what should be the biggest betting event of all time just around the corner in the [football] World Cup we will be looking to build on this achievement as we power our way to four million.”
With rumours of an upcoming IPO growing ever stronger, this is a company that the market will be watching closely.
