More illegal online gambling raids in Malaysia

Malaysian police have reported further action against illegal internet gambling, raiding four computerised gambling dens in different locations, spokesmen revealed on Tuesday.
Federal police spokesman Supt Maszely Minhad, who headed the operation, said 10 men including five gamblers and five workers were detained in the mid-afternoon raids.
The raids followed investigations and surveillance activity, he revealed. “After three days of investigations on all four gambling dens, we seized 52 computers, notebooks and cash,” he reported.
“The suspects, aged between 18 and 50, will be sent to the nearest police station and their remand period will be determined by the court,” he told reporters after the operation. Penalties are likely to be severe, because those responsible had been raided on several prior occasions, he added.
In related news, Kuala Lumpur city police confiscated 101 computers valued at RM1,000 each and arrested two gamblers and four workers, including an Indonesian, at a cyber cafe in Jalan Jejaka 7, Taman Maluri Tuesday.
Chief DSP Razali Abu Samah said the mid-afternoon raid was part of the police’s anti-gambling ‘Operation Dadu’ initiative, and that the six arrested men were aged between 25 and 33.
