In an attempt to curb internet gambling on the World Cup football, Thailand enforcement authorities in cooperation with the Information and Communication Technology Ministry have blocked 248 gambling websites, and have threatened that any police found involved in or acting as bookmakers will be summarily discharged.
A special investigation centre gathering evidence on betting on the World Cup has been set up at the Metropolitan Police Bureau, where police technology experts on gambling websites are monitoring the internet.
Police Gen Panupong Singhara Na Ayutthaya, a national police chief adviser, admitted to Bernama news agency reporters that suppressing football betting online is difficult because server networks are located overseas.
