Bookies challenge UK Gambling Commission fees

The UK Gambling Commission and the Independent Bookmakers Association, which represents  owners of some 700 betting shops, look set to clash in a dispute over the level of licensing fees.
Spokesmen for the Association revealed this week that it is to instruct lawyers to study the Gambling Commission’s words and actions.
Earlier, the chairman of the IBA, Hugh King, held a meeting with the commission’s Bill Butler at which he challenged both sets of fees, implemented under treasury guidelines, reports The Racing Post.
King characterised the formula for payments “…a joke and fundamentally flawed” with one-shop bookmakers being “crucified.”
