The UK gambling group Ladbrokes plc has plans for Australian operations, reports a British newspaper. The group intends to bid for a monopoly licence to run betting in Australia’s Victoria state, where wagering generates a turnover of A$3.6 billion ($2.4 billion) a year, claims the Sunday Times.
Ladbrokes registered its interest in a tender this month, the newspaper reports. Tabcorp Holdings Ltd’s ownership of the licence expires in 2012, the report said.
