There were several interesting nuggets of online information in the outstanding full year 2012 results posted by Paddy Power plc Tuesday.
The online and land gambling group revealed that almost three-quarters of its Euro 139.2 million (GBP 120.3 million) in profits came from online operations, where the number of active online punters has doubled to 1.6 million since 2010.
Much of the growth has come from mobile betting through smart phones and tablet computers, where mobile growth increased by 185 percent during 2012.
Online profits grew 8 percent to Euro 102.1 million (GBP 88.2 million) in 2012 – or by 27 percent before investment in four new ventures.
Only 9 percent of the estimated Euro 333 billion (GBP 287.8 million) global gambling market is currently online, the company pointed out in noting the potential for internet and mobile gambling worldwide.
