Gloria MacKenzie, an 84-year-old woman from Florida, has claimed the second-largest lottery jackpot winning $590.5 million in the Powerball Jackpot.
MacKenzie said as luck would have it, a man allowed her to go ahead of him when purchasing their quick-pick tickets at a supermarket in Zephyrhills, north of Tampa. She has elected to receive her winnings in a lump-sum payment, worth a pre-tax $370.8 million.
Saying in a statement she was grateful for this blessing of winning, MacKenzie said she preferred to stay out of the limelight. “We hope that everyone will give us an opportunity to maintain our privacy for our family’s benefit,” she said.
