Ohio town intends to tax online gamblers

The Lisbon Village Council in Ohio has apparently decided that whilst the regulation and licensing of online gambling is not favoured, taxing it’s lucky residents who win at the pastime is OK.
According to reports in the Salem News this week, the Council updated its tax laws recently to ensure they were compliant with Ohio law. Village Solicitor Virginia Barborak revealed that one new provision in the tax code will allow any money won as a result of online gambling to be taxed at 1.5 percent, which is the same amount at which other forms of income are taxed.
“The last time our tax code was updated, online gambling really wasn’t a factor,” she said.
