Sheldon Adelson’s Sands Bethlehem land casino in Pennsylvania has again been fined by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board for allowing underage gambling and drinking. The company self-reported 10 incidents over a five month period and was fined $150,000.
Two other land casino operators in the state were also fined for similar violations of state gambling laws and regulations.
The irony in the repeated fines paid by Sands properties for this sort of transgression lies in Adelson’s vehemently anti-online gambling position and his funding of bodies that claim online gambling operators are not capable of effectively barring the under-aged from gambling on the Internet.
In the current hearing a Sands Bethlehem executive explained that it was “very difficult” to exclude under-aged persons from accessing the gaming area despite the recent deployment of new ID scanning technology.
