The UK advertising watchdog Advertising Standards Authority has given the online gambling industry another clear warning regarding the undesirability of advertising or offering games with themes likely to attract minors, confirming that it is currently investigating four online operators – M88, 138.com, Fun88, and Letou.
All are mainly sports betting websites that sponsor UK football clubs, early reports suggest, although the enquiry is apparently related to the promotion of casino-style games that are likely to appeal to children.
The Sunday Times claims that the investigation follows complaints by the action group Campaign for Fairer Gambling, which identified games like Santa Paws and Fairytale Legends among those with themes appealing to the underaged.
The UK Gambling Commission has repeatedly warned online gambling operators to ensure the games they are offering from third party developers comply with regulations and do not have themes that appeal to young children.
