A 20-year exclusive contract with the Republic of Moldova announced by the Amaya Gaming Group in September 2011 has come to fruition with the official launch of “Milioane Pentru Moldova”, the country’s first national lottery.
The lottery, officially launched on February 15, is based on Short Message Service (SMS) technology. Mobile device users in Moldova will be able to participate in the lottery from February 19, 2012.
“The National Lottery of Moldova will act, based on the five main values: integrity, transparency, social responsibility, customer care and respect for employees,” said Ion Antohi, the general director of the National Lottery of Moldova.
“The National Lottery of Moldova aims to provide for all lottery players equal opportunity to win, and also, to bring benefits to the state budget, which will be directed towards education, health, sports, and culture areas. We want to follow the good examples from other experienced countries in this field and promote transparency and fair play,” said Victor Barbăneagră, vice-minister of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Moldova.
“We are very pleased to deploy the first of several gaming solutions we expect to implement in Moldova,” said David Baazov, president and chief executive officer of Amaya Gaming Group. “Our unique SMS technology is proving to be a very effective means of acquiring lottery customers, as it recognizes the fact that mobile devices are becoming more and more ingrained into the daily lives of people worldwide.”
Milioane Pentru Moldova leverages Amaya’s technology platform which will provide government authorities with real-time reporting of results and a framework for implementing responsible gaming features.
Amaya’s future plans in Moldova include the introduction of video lottery terminals, sports betting and digital gaming.
