Malaysian Police have dismantled the operational centre of an international online gambling ring and arrested 118 people.
“The raid was conducted at a bungalow near Lorong Gurney (Kuala Lumpur) and saw 118 arrests,” City police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said at a press conference today (Tuesday).
118 laptops and 479 mobile phones were seized from the operational centre from which police believe generated around RM 6 million (GBP 1.1 million) per month.
According to the authorities, punters in China were targeted by the ring, with all ring members being Chinese and entering Malaysia on tourist visas, bar one who is a local, Lazim said.
The Chinese embassy has reportedly been brought into the matter.
