Another delay for Spanish online gambling

News on 29 May 2012

The launch in Spain of the first online gambling operations bearing the .es domain suffix is to be slightly delayed after licenses are issued on June 1st, according to a letter to operators from the Spanish industry trade association JDigital this week.

The delay is by mutual agreement with the regulator and will only see operations kick off in the newly liberated Spanish market on June 5.

In the meantime, Spanish punters can continue to play, as the moratorium has been extended to accommodate the new operational date.

A spokesman for JDigital said that the request for a space between the issue of licenses on June 1st and the practical start of operations was requested by operators and motivated by an intervening weekend, which might have complicated the official switch-on and any hiccoughs that may be experienced as a consequence.

“Good industry practices indicate that this type of technical project should be set on a weekday and in the early morning, where there will be better response from technical teams and user volume and activity is more manageable,” a JDigital spokesman said.
