Police in the Zhejiang province of China revealed Thursday that they have been engaged in shutting down an online gambling ring that generated wagers of RMB 3 billion (US$440 million)following an extensive investigation that began in April this year after tip-offs from the public.
Several media reports on the police action quote spokesmen who said that following an initial investigation police and public security bureau officials simultaneously raided premises across several towns and cities in July, arresting 63 individuals, freezing bank accounts and seizing a total of RMB 2.3 billion in illegal proceeds.
Media reports have not identified the websites involved.
