Barely a week after the shuttering of a US$26 million illegal online betting ring in Ho Chi Minh City (see previous reports), Vietnamese police have reported another major bust, this one in the Thanh Hóa Province, where 11 suspects have been detained for illegal online football betting.
Police spokesmen have revealed that since the World Cup football championships kicked off earlier this (June) month the illegal enterprise had taken in wagers worth the equivalent of US$ 4.4 million, using websites based in the Cagayan Economic Zone in the Philippines.
Police raiding parties have seized cash, computer equipment and other evidence.
