French gaming authority ARJEL has revealed that banned or player self-exclusions from online casinos, casinos and gaming clubs has risen by 6.6 percent since the online market opened.

Self-exclusion requests and bans are valid for a period of three-years at all ARJEL licenced arcades, casinos, poker games and online gambling sites, and remain in force beyond the initial three-year period unless requested by the applicant.

The number of people registered in the banned/self exclusion file before the online market opened was 32 587 and updated on January 1, 2013 to 34 739, up 6.6 percent.

Based on the requirement that operators verify whether new account requests are recorded in the banned/self exclusion file before opening a new account, each player was tested 50 times on average during 2012.

527 million queries on the self exclusion/banned file were conducted by licenced operators equating to 16 requests per second and 44 million per month.

Between 4 and 5 percent of those listed on the file attempted to open an account with a licensed operator during any one month equating to 9.6 percent over the whole year.

Since the opening of the online market, 23.1 percent of people who were banned from playing have attempted to open an online account.

On average 40 people listed on the file have attempted to open accounts monthly with at least three different operators.
