ASA censures William Hill

A promotional offer on William Hill’s website that appeared in April 2011 was censured by the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) this week.
The complaint based on the promotions headline claim that read “GBP150 Bonus For all new casino players”, and the qualifying text “* Requires a GP35 minimum deposit, terms and conditions apply”, could be interpreted by readers to mean that, if they joined the William Hill Casino and deposited GBP35, they would receive GBP150 with which to bet on games on the site.
The actual terms and conditions accessed via a drop-down menu meant William Hill would match any deposit from GBP35 to GBP150 and therefore to receive a GBP150 bonus a customer would have to deposit GBP150.
The ASA noted that while the terms and conditions were supplied, they should have been linked to the headline.  The body ruled that the offer may not appear again in its current form.
