The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) took mobile casino operator LeoVegas to task this week for an advertorial appearing on mirror.co.uk that offered an “extra special welcome bonus” of GBP1,500.
Customers were invited after registration to “begin betting by depositing £10 or more and you’ll receive 100% in deposit bonuses, as well as 50 Free Spins. LeoVegas will give you more 100% deposit bonuses for your following three deposits – adding another 50 spins every time you request more. All in all, new players can claim up to £1,500 and 250 free spins absolutely free”.
A single complainant challenged whether the advertorial misleadingly suggested that consumers would receive the £1,500 in cash to which the ASA ruled that the ad was likely to cause confusion for customers as it did not make sufficiently clear whether consumers would receive the £1500 in cash or as a “welcome bonus”.
The ad may not not appear again in its current form, the ASA ruled, telling LeoVegas future promotions may not state or suggest that consumers could claim a cash incentive unless that was the case.
