William Hill has been sanctioned by the UK Advertising Standards Authority on three different tweets on its @WillHillBet Twitter feed that it ruled were irresponsible as they appealed to children.
The first tweet featured a child, holding a golf club and ball, jumping in the air accompanied by “TheMasters has started! yippee”.
The second and third tweets were a promotion inviting readers to take pics of two teddy bears on the back of a lorry and in front of the Houses of Parliament for a chance to win a free bet on the Grand National.
William Hill agreed the use of the images were unacceptable and said it had implemented procedures to ensure the error was not repeated.
In a second ruling, the ASA upheld a complaint against a home page promotion on Betway.com offering a “£50 Free Bet*”. The asterisk linked to a tab at the bottom of the page which stated “Bonus Terms”. The ASA ruled the terms and conditions were significant enough to have been included in the advert and that it may, therefore, not appear again in its current format.
