Belarus, a relatively small nation that was once a part of the old USSR, is reportedly mulling the regulation, licensing and taxation of online gambling.
The tax ministry has drafted a proposal for parliamentarians to debate that envisages a government online gambling portal that would provide users with access to licensed and regulated online operators – probably those with existing land licensing.
Tax Minister Uladzimir Paluyan has revealed that licensed operators will have to have their servers and a corporate presence within the republic’s borders, and that he hopes to have a decision from parliament this year.
Tax ministry estimates are that an additional $6 million annually will be generated for government coffers over the next three years.
