UK privately-owned gambling firm bet365 will move its remote gambling operations to Gibraltar following a structural review.
The company said Gibraltar will become its licencing hub with the company operating its international betting businesses under the licences granted by the Government of Gibraltar, while still retaining a UK presence in Stoke-on-Trent.
As one of the city’s largest employers, bet365 said it did not have any redundancy plans as a result of its move to Gibraltar. Existing employees remaining in Stoke-on-Trent will continue to provide contracted support to the Gibraltar operating hub, such as software and technical support, customer services and contracted marketing services.
“As part of the reorganisation, bet365 is augmenting its existing presence in Gibraltar, a jurisdiction that offers a mature and stable environment for international remote gambling operators,” a company statement said.
According to the Gibraltar Chronicle, Bet365’s relocation will create around 150 jobs locally.
