Betfair set to score from Mayweather – McGregor fight

With just short of three weeks to go before two ferocious boxers enter the ring in what has been billed as the fight of the century, online betting exchange Betfair reports that it has already taken a record-breaking GBP 11.3 million in wagers…and a spokesman predicts that by the time the fight starts that could rise to GBP 50 million or more.

The fight that has everyone excited pitches Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather against UFC fighter ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor in a much-hyped fight with huge amounts of money available to the two pugilists.

Betfair says its previous record for such an event was GBP 8.9 million, set in 2015 when Mayweather faced and bested Manny Pacquiao.

A spokesperson for Betfair commented Monday:

“It’s now three weeks until one of the most anticipated fights in recent memory and with GBP 11.3 million bet on the outcome alone already this is now the biggest boxing betting event in Betfair history. We expect this fight to trade well over GBP 50 million and it could even get to the GBP 100 million mark, which would be one of our biggest sporting events of all time.”
