Britain’s online and retail bookmaking group BetFred has inked an agreement with England’s Rugby Football League to become the new title sponsor of the Championship and League 1 club competitions.
The bookmaker already sponsors the top-tier Super League and will now introduce its branding to the second and third tiers for the next two years, through to end of 2019, when the Super League sponsorship is also due to end.
The deal includes brand exposure on in-stadium perimeter signage at all Championship and League 1 matches, as well as support for the annual ‘Summer Bash’ event and extensive coverage from televised matches on SkyTV.
Ralph Rimmer, chief executive of the RFL, said: “Betfred’s first year involved in the Super League was an unquestionable success and I am certain that they will bring the passion and enthusiasm to their extended sponsorship.
“The Championship and League 1 provide great entertainment and are an integral part of the game and the fact that Betfred has extended their sponsorship to these tiers of the sport demonstrates the value they see in being involved in Rugby League.
“The Betfred Championship is now one of the most geographically diverse competitions in the world including teams from Toronto, Toulouse and London and with this new deal, I am certain both competitions will go from strength to strength.”
