Betreels, an online casino operator that recently announced its planned withdrawal from the Australian market next month (see previous report) has advised affiliates that it also intends to exit the Dutch market.
In its communication, the operator explained that the Gibraltar gaming regulator has indicated that its licensees are no longer going to be allowed to accept players from the Netherlands.
These changes will come into effect in May, coinciding with regulatory changes regarding gambling that are about to take place in Australia (see previous reports).
Betreels outlined its timetable for the Netherlands exit, indicating an effective date of May 5, and advised that its accepted markets going forward will be UK, New Zealand, Sweden, Norway, Canada, Germany, Ireland
The Dutch political move toward legalised online gambling has been a tortuous process over many years, but is now apparently approaching the implementation of licensing and regulation, hopefully later this year or early 2018.
