The Swedish online gambling group Betsson AB has confirmed that it has curtailed affiliate marketing and promotions in the Dutch market in the interest of ensuring it will be favourably considered for a licence under the forthcoming regulatory regime in the Netherlands.
Our readers will recall that the Dutch government has repeatedly warned that illegal operators run the risk of have online gambling license applications rejected if they continue to act illegally in the run-up to legalisation later this year.
The Dutch regulator Kansspelautoriteit has also recently agreed new advertising restrictions with media groups in the Netherlands.
Betsson has Dutch-facing subsidiaries in the form of the successful Kroon and Oranje internet casino brands, and has advised affiliate marketers that players referred from promos presented in the Dutch language will no longer be accepted and credited.
Betsson’s temporary withdrawal from the market follows similar voluntary suspensions in promotional activity by 888 and William Hill .
