Better numbers for Nevada in September

Figures for September from the Nevada Gaming Control Board show that gambling revenue rose in Clark County including 2 percent on the Las Vegas Strip to $504.8 million and 9 percent in the downtown Fremont Street corridor to $47.5 million, ending a three-month slide for the gambling state.

The Board said Thursday that casinos in Nevada collected $916.3 million from gamblers during the month, an increase of 1.5 percent from a year ago.

High earner game Baccarat on the Strip improved, with revenue increasing 23.2 percent to $100.5 million while volume grew 16.5 percent to $751.9 million. Baccarat action has been declining following the Chinese clampdown on corruption.

The Board’s analyst, Michael Lawton said a strong Las Vegas events calendar during the month and a busy Labor Day has also helped to improve the monthly numbers.

Lawton said that for the year to date state-wide gaming revenue is up .3 percent while Strip casinos have seen gaming revenue decline 1.5 percent.

The Control Board said the state collected more than $58 million in gaming taxes during October, based on September’s revenue totals, a decline of 12.2 percent from a year ago. State-wide gaming tax collections are up less than 1 percent for the first four months of the fiscal year.
