Better numbers from Nevada in April

There was more positive news from Nevada in April as revenues ended a two-month decline to come in 5.4 percent up on a year-on-year basis, with slot machine revenue up 6 percent at $601.5 million, contributing three-fourths of the $45.9 million increase.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board statistics released Friday show the state’s land casinos won $897.9 million overall from slots, table games and baccarat – a welcome improvement after the declines in February and March .

NGCB analyst Mike Lawton noted that swings in baccarat did not cause the same damage as in  preceding months, and in April delivered a 14.4 percent rise in amounts staked to $742.1 million, producing state-wide baccarat revenue up 5.6 percent to $95.5 million.

The Las Vegas Strip outperformed other centres, delivering the best April revenue numbers in the last seven years at $499 million – up 7.8 percent y-o-y, whilst downtown Las Vegas numbers were also positive, rising 12.5 percent to $49.6 million.

Blackjack revenues grew 12.9 percent to $81.8 million but poker revenue fell 3.2 percent to $8.5 million.

The state’s sportsbooks produced disappointing results, down 14.3 percent to $7.9 million, with baseball betting the best with an improvement of 50 percent to $6.7 million based on a 7.16 percent hold. Racing revenues were down 7.7 percent at $3.4 million.

Better numbers are anticipated for the month of May, when the Mayweather-Pacquino fight brought large numbers of punters and fight fans to Las Vegas, hopefully boosting casino revenues.
