Big day for point of comsumption gaming in the UK

Today (Feb. 12) will see another important step forward in the British government’s plans to introduce a secondary licensing and taxation regime governing online gambling operators who wish to access the UK market.

In a mid-morning session the Department of Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee will consider oral and written evidence from a variety of interested parties on the draft Gambling (Licensing & Advertising) Bill, with two oral witnesses in Jonathan Stephens, Permanent Secretary, Department for Culture, Media and Sport, and Jenny Williams, Chief Executive, Gambling Commission.

In this second evidence session, the Committee will have the opportunity to question the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Gambling Commission about the specific benefits that will accrue to consumers from the Bill; the factors that led the Government to conclude that the potential benefits of the Bill for consumers outweighs the disadvantages to legitimate operators; and how the proposed legislation would help to reduce match-fixing.
