Online casino firm Mfortune had a little fun with the players on April Fool’s Day this year, the company has revealed, describing how it used a fictional new technology titled Splink to hoodwink mobile punters.
Mfortune portrayed Splink as an advanced new technology using gamers’ eye movements and blinking to control their monitor screens.
Customers across the world were fooled and tried to blink their way to winning on the online games, but instead had embarrassing pictures of themselves uploaded.
George Warner of Mfortune Casinos, said: “In true April Fools style we managed to have some fun with some of our players. Promoted across our Facebook, Twitter and website, Splink was touted as a revolution in online gaming through the blink of an eye.
“After downloading our latest slots game Buck a Reels, players were told to look into their phone’s front facing camera and simply blink to spin the reels.
“As you would expect some of our players had some difficulty trying to get our April Fools technology to work.”
The company’s technical support team then asked the gamblers to send in pictures with their hands over their ears or other amusing poses.
Warner said: “The combination of a willing audience and Mfortune technical support team made for some comical exchanges and brilliant photos.”
The company gave game bonuses to those whose photos were uploaded to social media.
Customer Alexandra Rose Rippon said: “Fooled me, I felt like a right idiot when I was blinking all the time and nothing happened, then doing all the silly little things I was asked to do.
“I was fooled good style.”
She was not the only one, as one journalist thought he had uncovered a technological scoop and wrote the Splink story up for real.
