December figures released Wednesday by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement show that online gambling revenues continue to provide a useful component in overall Atlantic City gambling numbers (see previous report) and were in fact up 22.8 percent on the same period last year at $10.7 million (December 2013: $7.4 million).
It has to be noted, however, that legalised online gambling in the Garden State in December 2013 had only been introduced the month previous.
Compared with the record lows experienced in November 2014, December was better for internet gambling companies, delivering a 22.8 percent monthly improvement.
On the land casino side, December was another disappointing month for operators with gambling win at $190.5 million down on December 2013, when the casinos delivered $214.5 million – an 11.2 percent decline.
Drilling down into the online gambling statistics, it appears that December poker revenues were up on the previous month ($206 million vs. 1.87 million in November 2014), with online casino gaming revenues soaring 26.5 percent to $8.68 million compared with November 2014.
The market leading partnership PartyPoker-Borgata continued to rule the internet gambling roost in December with a 33.6 percent market share, chased as usual by Caesars Interactive Entertainment-888, which captured 24.5 percent of the market.
Tropicana – which offers only casino action on its website – claimed 21.6 percent of the overall online gambling market, whilst the Golden Nugget-Betfair combo managed to hold on to 20.3 percent.
The Borgata-PartyPoker team’s lead was a little less pronounced in terms of the online poker segment, extending to 53.9 percent market share compared with Caesars-888’s 46.1 percent.
Year-on-year, internet poker at $2.06 million in December showed a decline of 28.4 percent compared with the same period a year ago.
Online casino performed far better y-o-y, recording revenues of $8.7 million in December 2014 for a 93 percent increase when compared with December 2013.
Accoring to the New Jersey regulator, 506,172 online gambling accountys have been opened in the state over the year, with the number of active players estimated at about 84,362.
