Motherwell mid-fielder Steve Jennings (27), who was arrested on allegations of sport corruption along with nine other men back in October 2010 has been cleared of any wrongdoing following a police investigation, his legal representative, Nick Melville, told BBC Scotland Saturday.
The police action was triggered by bookmaker reports of irregular betting patterns on Motherwell’s 2-1 defeat by Hearts, during which Jennings was sent off. He has consistently denied the allegations throughout the enquiry.
Melville told the BBC that he had received a communication from the Merseyside police authorities.
“We’ve received information from Merseyside Police that in relation to Mr Jennings there’ll be no further action,” Melville revealed. “Mr Jennings stated from the outset that he’s had no involvement whatsoever with any criminal activity and this vindicates his stance throughout.”
