Bulgarian gambling commission chief replaced

The announcement by Bulgaria’s Minister of Finance Petar Chobanov Thursday that Ognemir Mitev is to head the State Commission for Gambling inevitably triggered speculation that the ill-timed publication of an online gambling black list last week may be at the root of the appointment.

Ivan Enicherov, who Mitev is to replace, has only been in charge since April this year, when he took over from Kaloyan Krastev, moving across from the legal division in the Ministry of Finance.

The announcement of the new gambling chief did not include any explanations for the change, but revealed that Mitev is a longtime employee of the Finance Ministry and State Commission for Gambling.

Between 2000 and 2011 he worked with the Chief Directorate for Gambling Control at the Finance Ministry and with the State Commission for Gambling.

He graduated in economics and the organisation of domestic trade, and is reportedly fluent in English and Russian.
