California’s attack on the restrictive sports betting federal Professional Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) continues to advance with the news that the state’s Senate Governmental Organizing Committee has voted unanimously (13-0) to approve the measure and send it to the full Senate.
SB1390 seeks to allow sports wagering at horse tracks, card rooms, Indian casinos and poker halls throughout the state.
If passed, the bill will bring California into confrontation with federal law, which currently restricts sports betting to just three US states. The state of New Jersey is already well advanced on a similar project .
