Police in Poipet City, Cambodia have reported the arrest on online gambling charges of 55 people, including 47 Malaysian and 8 Chinese nationals following raids in the city.
Major Sok Bora said city police worked with provincial police and court prosecutors to raid two different villas in Poipet commune’s Samakky village at about 3pm on Tuesday after a surveillance action.
“They were part of a foreign mafia who were hiding in Cambodia in order to run an illegal gambling operation online,” Maj Bora claimed to reporters. “They were arrested after police raided their rented homes. We arrested them while they were online.”
He added that police seized a number of computers, mobile phones and other materials.
