SAS CANALWIN, the company created by French broadcaster CANAL + Group and Ladbrokes has gone into liquidation and requested that its ARJEL licence be withdrawn.
CANALWIN was awarded ARJEL accreditation to operate a sports betting site in July 2010 however the site was never launched. The company indicated at the end of 2010 that it was reconsidering its entry into the French market because taxation was at a level so prohibitive that it was not a worthwhile investment.
The Company, now in liquidation, informed ARJEL of its decision and has requested its accreditation be withdrawn.
In related news, ARJEL has rejected a request by France-Pari to operate a sports betting website accessible via the domain name betincash.fr. France-Pari is licenced by ARJEL to operate french-pari.fr, coupedumonde-pari.fr, sportnco.fr, and football-pari.fr.
The request was rejected on the grounds of the French translation of “bet-in-cash” meaning “betting cash” and it ruled that the domain name is likely to cause confusion in the mind of the punter as accounts cannot be furnished with cash.
