The ‘pitch-a-bitch’ department of the Casinomeister online gambling information website published its annual statistics for player complaints Friday, noting that the number of complaints declined from 255 to 183 last year, with just over 33 percent resolved in favour of the player.
The site offers one of the most well established, free-of-charge online dispute resolution services through which it operates as an intermediary between players and operators.
Disputes manager Max Drayman said the downward trend in complaints in recent years is again reflected in the latest stats, which he opines is probably the result of the bad global economic situation; the availability of more dispute resolution facilities online; and the still unsatisfactory US political and enforcement approach to internet gambling.
Drayman singles out the Kahnawake Gaming Commission’s dispute resolution service for praise, and certainly the resolution stats released last week by that body show an active and busy facility.
During the year, the Kahnawake Gaming Commission received 620 complaints and carried over 304 outstanding cases from 2011, making a total of 924 complaints in all.
Of this total, 144 did not satisfy the Commission’s criteria and were not accepted as valid complaints.
The 780 valid complaints were categorised by subject as follows:
* 51 complaints pertained to locked or closed player accounts;
* 590 complaints pertained to late, delayed, or non-payment to player;
* 63 complaints pertained to questions of fairness on operator sites;
* 77 complaints were categorized as miscellaneous.
The present status of the 780 validated complaints is that 448 have been resolved, with 66.52 percent of resolutions favouring the player and 150 closed as unfounded.
Back to the Casinomeister stats, where Drayman reveals that the complaints he handled involved monies successfully reclaimed for the players totalling US$90,000, some fifty six percent lower than last year’s amounts.
This is the result of lower amounts wagered, with Drayman observing that the average value of player claims against the casinos has been steadily decreasing for years, and is now around an average of US$3,300 per case in 2011 vs. about US$1,500 this year.
Casinomeister’s intervention has seen 60 cases successfully resolved in favour of the player, or around 33 percent of complaints – an improvement on last year’s 25 percent player-successful resolutions, which Drayman attributes to greater player diligence in checking out the Terms and Consitions before playing.
