Sports betting firm Centrebet has extended its relationship with the Australian NRL’s Manly Sea Eagles. The AUD$ 1 million sponsorship deal will see Centrebet’s logo on the back of the maroon and white jersey of the Manly Sea Eagles for the next two seasons, with an option for a third year.
Centrebet is no stranger to the Australian NRL sponsorship arena with leading sponsorships across several clubs namely; Manly Sea Eagles, North Queensland Cowboys, the Parramatta Eels, the Penrith Panthers and the St George Illawarra Dragons.
Manly Sea Eagles chairman Scott Penn says the club’s new commercial partnership with sports betting giant Centrebet is a coup for the Sea Eagles and the tip of the iceberg for sports betting agencies and the game of Rugby League. Penn predicts sports betting will ultimately become the second largest revenue earner to television rights in a financial bonanza for NRL teams.
“The recent unanimous ruling in the Federal Court giving the sport of horse racing 1.5% of every dollar bet will give racing a return of between AUD$ 50 – AUD$ 60 million a year. Given Rugby League is the second most wagered on sport we have high hopes that Rugby League will receive their fair share in the future. This would be a significant and a great financial boost to all clubs,” said Penn.
Centrebet PR and media chief Neil Evans said Centrebet would also be extending its Rugby League betting platform offering punters even more outright, exotic and novelty markets across the 2011 season.
