Monday’s big surprise was a press release from online gambling company Betsson announcing the immediate departure of CEO Ulrik Bengtsson for reasons that are not explained.
The announcement revealed that Bengtsson and the board of directors had agreed on his departure, and advised that the chairman of the board, Pontus Lingwall would take over CEO responsibilities until a replacement is found.
Lindwall’s role as chairman of the board will be assumed by the board member Patrick Svensk until further notice.
“Ulrik Bengtsson has done a good job for Betsson during the five years he has been employed by the Group. He has clarified the strategy and implemented significant product launches. On behalf of the Board and myself, I would like to thank Ulrik for his efforts,” said Lindwall.
The Board has initiated a process to find a new permanent CEO of Betsson AB. Jesper Svensson, chief commercial officer of BML Group, has been appointed acting CEO in Betsson’s operational subsidiary in Malta.
