Despite the continued government lockdown on internet lottery sales, China’s main lotteries continued to prosper in H1-2016, with sales up 3.5 percent year-on-year over the period
Reporting on the growth, the Xinhua news agency noted that total sales in the period topped 194 billion yuan (US$30 billion) in the first half of 2016, according to official figures released Tuesday.
Sales of welfare lottery tickets dropped 0.5 percent to 102 billion yuan, but sports lottery sales increased 8.4 percent to 92 billion yuan, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement.
The lottery sales in south China’s Guangdong Province in H1 showed the biggest rise, up by 2.42 billion yuan, while Hubei, Henan and Yunnan also posted large increases, according to the statement.
