Shanghai police spokesmen said that the criminal enterprises involved more than 180 million yuan (US$29.31 million), and revealed that a total of 54 computers were seized.
Three men were named as agents working for a foreign gambling website, the identity of which was not disclosed. The trio and their secondary agents earned 5 percent of the amount gambled by the people they lured to the website.
The police were also active in shutting down a land gambling operation in Putuo District concealed behind a front company titled Zegui Electric Co. The company was selling illegal gambling machines, 22 of which were seized, and seven persons arrested.
